About Virginia Scott
Virginia has always loved reading and writing. Words have long been her refuge. During her childhood and adolescence, her family lived in Europe and Africa — English, French, and Danish are woven into her reality. Sometimes, songs in Swahili still find their way back to her.
Her international upbringing naturally led her to a career in language teaching. For more than forty years she shared her love of French with high school and college students. During her thirty-two-year career as a professor of French and Applied Linguistics at Vanderbilt University, she cultivated her "academic voice." It was an exhilarating time.
After retirement, she set out to find her creative voice. Gradually, while writing her memoir, Glorious Indiscretions, a more personal voice helped her weave words together into a colorful (and sometimes flawed) tapestry of her past.
For nearly forty years she has lived in Nashville, Tennessee, in a wonderful old Tudor-style house with her spouse and two dogs. When not traveling, she spends time with her children and grandchildren in Nashville, Boston, and Boulder. She also cooks, gardens, and feeds the birds. A five o'clock glass of wine (or two) on the screened porch with friends and neighbors is a highlight of her life.
